Dawn Gibbins presents Lanyards R Us with their prize

Local Students enter the Dragons’ Den

Business, Administration and Finance Advanced Diploma students from Macclesfield College had the opportunity to present their business ideas to a panel of 4 influential local entrepreneurs in a Dragons Den style competition recently.

Tasked with coming up with a business proposal to improve the College’s service, the 4 groups had to successfully write their own business plans and pitch their ideas in order to win the (Monopoly) prize money.

The ‘Dragons’ were Secret Millionaire and self-titled ‘Philanthropreneur’ Dawn Gibbins from The Barefoot Foundation, Angela Lawrence, Chartered Marketer, Jerry Green, Governor and Accountant and Sarah Ludford from Business Link.

The winning proposal came from ‘Lanyards R Us’, who came up with the idea of offering alternative lanyards to College students who don’t want to be seen as the same as everyone else. They gained permission from senior management at the College to offer alternative colours and styles and presented their ideas with great passion.

Research showed their idea to be a real winner with the students, and the judges certainly agreed.
