Elections for the 20 seats on Congleton Town Council takes place every four years, with the last elections held in May 2007. Since then there have been four resignations which have been filled by election or co-option. The next elections will be held in May 2011. C= Conservative, L = Labour LD = Liberal Democrat TM = Town Mayor DTM = Deputy Town Mayor The Town Mayor of Congleton is elected annually by a vote of the Council. The Mayor chooses a charity for his/her year in office and raises money. All Councillors sit on Council, Planning and Strategy Working Group Meetings and a smaller number are elected onto Finance and Policy, Community and Environment, Amenities and Services, Personnel and Town Hall committees. Committees are run on a six week cycle. Mre held in the Town Hall and are open to members of the public. The Town Council is responsible for operating the Town Hall, the Paddling Pool, Hilary Avenue Allotments, Town Centre Management and the Town Handy Person Service. It is also the responsible body for Congleton Partnership, which brings together the public, community and business sectors in an effective force working to regenerate the Town. The Town Council supports the voluntary sector with more than £100,000 in grants each year and helps sponsor four Police Community Support Officers. It is accredited as a Quality Town Council, and in 2009 signed the Nottingham Declaration, committing to lead the local response to the impact of climate change.
