World’s Most Frisbees Record ConfirmedCongleton has finally received the certificate it wanted from Guinness World Records confirming that the town’s World Record attempt for the most Frisbees launched simultaneously has been recognised and was successful. The Frisbee event was organised by Team Congleton in April, and involved children from 10 local primary schools carrying out an organised throw in Hankinson’s field. Although 540 children took part, the record has been set at 504 as some Frisbees either were not thrown at the right time, or did not travel the required distance. Thanks to the generous support of Congleton Inclosure Trust named authentic Guinness certificates have been ordered for the participating primary schools, and these along with named Team Congleton certificates for participating pupils will be delivered to the schools for the beginning of term. Fortunately nearly all the pupils were in year 5 and so will be returning to their primary schools in September. Barbara I’Anson, from Triad and Team Congleton said: “We are delighted that this record has been recognised and awarded to Congleton. In our hearts we were sure that we had achieved the record, but until Guinness head office had evaluated all the evidence we couldn’t be sure. A big thank you to everyone who helped achieve this record, it was a real community effort. I would especially like to thank the schools, Congleton Town Council, Berisford Ribbons, High Profile Plastic Products Ltd and Dane Housing. Congleton Town Mayor, Councillor David Brown, said: “This is the second Guinness World Record for Congleton. We still hold the record for the World’s largest Maypole dance, which we gained in May 2008. It’s a credit to all involved. There’s now over 650 children in the town who can claim to have helped achieve a World Record, which is fun for them, and helps spread the word about the community focus we have here in Congleton.” Team Congleton continues to raise funds to make 2012 memorable for Congleton. Its next fun fund raising activity is an Autumn Ball in the Town Hall on Friday 17 September. Tickets are available via the Town Hall at £25 each or £220 for a table of 10.
