Beartown?
This is the story of a market town in Cheshire that became famous for its attachment to its resident bear. So much so, that when the bear became old and died just before the town festivities, the money put aside for the new town bible was borrowed to replace him.
This bear has long gone, but the legend lives on in the hearts of Congleton’s people. We still celebrate that imagination and determination to have fun. And why should it stop there? Our town’s a town for choice, a town for friendships, and a town for visiting and revisiting.
