Congleton Local Food Store – the first phase!

After announcing our intentions to launch a town centre local food store in The Congleton Chronicle 23rd June we’ve had discussions with lots of people about turning our ideas into reality. You won’t be surprised to know money is the major challenge. Potential funders want evidence of need and what kind of disadvantaged people you are planning to help! In these days of austerity there are fewer funds and they are much more choosy.

Nevertheless that’s only made us more determined to create a scheme to connect Congleton shoppers with the glorious food available on our doorstep.  So we are going to start by launching a virtual shop.

From 25th November, in time for lovely food Christmas Presents you will be able to order Congleton’s local food either in town or over the internet.

  • Order forms will be available at the Tourist Information Centre (TIC.
  • You  can also download an order form here...
  • Fill in the order form with what you’d like to buy and post it into the Beartown’s Food ‘post box’ inside the TIC before 4pm each Wednesday.
  • Alternatively, you can order over the internet at www.beartownsfood.co.uk before 4pm on Wednesday.
  • We will then make up your order.
  • Delivery – we will deliver it to you on the following Saturday when you will pay for your order by cheque.
  • Collection - If you would prefer to collect your order in person simply visit Astbury Mere Visitor Centre between 2pm and 4pm on Saturdays where you can pay by cash.

What’s going to be available for Christmas?

  • Christmas Cakes, jams and chutneys from PurpleLaura
  • Christmas Puddings, mince pies and biscuits from Daphne Youles
  • Congleton Apple Juice of course
  • Honey and bees wax polish from L’Endoit

In the New Year we will enlarge the scheme to give customers a full range of local meats, vegetables, bread, eggs, jams, chutneys, cakes, honey and biscuits

And as we discover more local food we will make it available to you.

Potential customers can find out about us in 2 quite different ways:

·         Through our website www.beartownsfood.co.uk  where our ethos will be outlined on the home page and each producer will have a separate page. The order form will be downloadable Word document that can be emailed to us when completed.

·         Via order forms available from a number of leaflet holders positioned around the town as the scheme expands. The leaflet will be both our advertising and order form. The order forms will outline our ethos and tell people about the products and how to order. The form when completed will be posted to the Beartown’s Food post box positioned in the Tourist Information Centre.
