Congleton beartown Banners

Congleton’s Mountbatten Way and Market Street has literally got a bit greener this week – thanks to new Congleton Beartown where friends are made banners which now adorn 23 of the lamp posts.

The banners are one part of the Bear Team’s marketing drive to gain more attention, and ultimately more visitors to Congleton. They were made possible by a great introductory offer by the banner company Bay Media, the support of the sponsoring businesses and organisations and grant money.

Planning permission for the banners was granted by Cheshire East in October 2009.

Chair of the Bear Team, Dawn Gibbins said; “These banners have been talked about for a while and it great to now have them lining one of the main routes through Congleton. Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this possible.”

On one side of the banners is the supporting company logo, and on the reverse the www.mybeartown.co.uk logo.  The mybeartown web site is another initiative led by the volunteer group – and traffic through the web site is growing rapidly. The site has been developed to generate interest in Congleton and any local group, organisation or business in Congleton wishing to put information on the site should contact jm@congletontowncouncil.co.uk

The Bear team has big plans for 2010 including the publication of the Beartown story book based on the stories from the 2009 schools story competition, a beartown where friends are made garden at Tatton Park, recreation of Congleton Gingerbread in the form of a bear, beartown merchandise, and creating a family of beartown bears which can help promote and generate interest in the town.

The Bear Team is made up of volunteers and is a sub-group of the Congleton partnership. With the help of more volunteers it hopes to achieve even more for the town and anyone interested in joining the group should contact either Dawn Gibbins on 01260 222122, Jackie MacArthur, Congleton Town Council on 01260 289409 or Fiona Hampton, Berisford Ribbons on 01260 282720.
