National Award for Congleton Sustainability Group

The Congleton Sustainability Group, a sub committee of the Congleton Partnership, received a national award from Action for Market Towns for their very successful Apple Juice Project for being a Highly Transferable Project which other market towns around the UK could emulate.

The award in the form of a beautiful ceramic dish was collected by Margaret Williamson on behalf of the group at the annual convention for aMT at Ludlow on Thursday October 13th.

Another winner was  Mold Town Council for their ‘Springy’ initiative which had involved over a thousand residents taking part in a massive spring clean event earlier this year. It is planned to follow Mold’s example next spring by organising a similar event for Congleton.

The three year old Congleton Apple Juice project goes from strength to strength with thousands of apples from well over a hundred residents pouring into the Visitors Centre at Astbury Mere Country Park each week. Residents can bring their apples to the centre on any day from nine to five for the next two weeks.
