Bearmania - what a blast!

Congleton Beartown's Bearmania got off to a ripping start, with a preview on the 18th May and a full scale launch on the 21st. In anticipation of our succesful launch both BBC TV and Granada TV featured Bear Mania (see home page and view the Granada report). Silk FM covered the launch day.

1,500 local schoolkids performed at Congleton Town Hall

Bearmania really has become a community event. Local schools have been central to Bearmania and to celebrate the launch 1,500 performed at Congleton Town Hall for the launch of the cultural arts festival on the 18th.

Thousands of visitors thronged the streets

The Bears all took up their at key locations around the town to form our 'Bear Trail' and Mayor, Margaret Williamson MBE cut the ribbon. Meanwhile everyone was entertained by more school performances and an African Drumming band. Merchandise stalls selling Bermania produce and gingerbread bears were on hand, together with an Animal Asia stall complete with a Moony Bear.

It was wonderful to see so many visitors, especially families - all excitedly 'ticking off' each bear as they completed the trail.

Sandra Isherwood, Head of Marlfield Primary School and a key player in the Bear Mania organising team, summed it up:

"A fantastic day - amazing how a community spirit can bring yound and old together, sharing the love and appreciation of a great town."

Why not visit the trail for yourself?
